…is a catalyst derived from plant cell-wall sugars that researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne are combining with lignin—a component of wood—to replace the harmful bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) in thermal paper coatings. When heated, the coating made from plant-based biomass produces clear, stable printed images and, unlike BPA or BPS, shows no detectable toxic effects or disruption of hormones. It enables the production of more environmentally friendly receipts, tickets, and shipping labels.
