Riff diff stands for Rotamer Inverted Fragment Finder-Diffusion, an AI-supported technology for the design of artificial enzymes. Instead of modifying existing proteins as was previously the case, researchers from Graz, Austria, are using generative machine learning models and the computer-aided simulation of atoms and molecules to build enzymes from scratch. In the active center of the enzyme, they first position the structural elements that are crucial for the desired reaction and then generate the complete protein molecule structure using AI. This results in particularly fast and stable biocatalysts for industry, medicine, and the environment.
